De Leeuw van Waterloo is eigendom van de Belgische staat. De grasheuvel is 40 meter hoog. Het beest zelf doet er 4,5 meter bovenop. Het bestaat uit negen gietijzeren onderdelen die 200 jaar geleden uit de hoogovens van Cockerill in Seraing kwamen. De leeuw weegt 28 ton, werd in 1826 omhooggetakeld met katrollen en een kabelbaan. Er bestaat een litho van de operatie. Appareil pour placer le Lion de Waterloo, zegt het onderschrift. Op de voorgrond staat een man op krukken te bedelen. Eén broekspijp is leeg. Misschien is hij zijn been kwijtgeraakt in de Slag bij Waterloo.
