Dit gebouw werd in 1900 opgericht door de Brusselse filantropische vereniging 'Les Marçunvins', waaraan het zijn originele naam ontleende. Deze vereniging werd gesticht in 1875 en bood financiële steun aan jonge studenten. Later organiseerden ze ook vakantiekolonies voor zwakke kinderen. De locatie in Westende was dan ook ideaal gelegen omwille van de gezonde zeelucht.
Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog werd dit gebouw met de grond gelijk gemaakt. In 1930 werd het echter wederopgebouwd en nadien ook uitgebreid.
Het is een mooi voorbeeld van modernistische architectuur : het gebouw is slechts twee bouwlagen hoog, heeft een plat dak en is volledig wit geschilderd. Afgeronde en scherpe hoeken wisselen elkaar speels af.
