Het kerkhof van Reningelst en de ‘Extension’ werden gebruikt van maart 1915 tot het ‘New Military Cemetery’ in gebruik werd genomen in november 1915. De helft van de gesneuvelden die begraven werden op de ‘Extension’ kwamen om bij Hill 60 in Zillebeke na de poging van de Duitse troepen om op 1 mei 1915 met chloorgas de kunstmatig aangelegde heuvel te heroveren. De 5de divisie van het Britse leger hield stand, maar meer dan 300 soldaten dienden met een gasvergiftiging te worden overgebracht naar een van de ‘Field Ambulances’ achter het front.
