Jef Planckaert was één van de beste Belgische renners van het begin van de jaren 1960. 1962 was zijn absolute topjaar. Toen werd hij tweede in de Ronde van Frankrijk, werd hij Belgisch kampioen en won hij Luik-Bastenaken-Luik en de rittenkoers Parijs-Nice. Jef overleed in 2007, twee jaar later kreeg hij een standbeeld in zijn woonplaats Otegem. Let op, dit standbeeld ligt niet op het fietsnetwerk. Gebruik de knop bovenaan rechts om met je gps naar het standbeeld te gaan en terug te keren tot het knooppunt waar je nu staat.
