In 1838 liet de lokale abt een beeld van Sint Antonius plaatsen waarna de boom een lokaal bedevaartsoord werd voor de boeren in de streek. Hier kwamen ze genezing afsmeken voor hun varkens en namen ze eikels mee als voer voor de biggen. De takken van de volle kroon van de boom zijn in de herfst trouwens nog steeds zwaar beladen met eikels.
