Historisch gezien was de provincie Vlaams Brabant opgesplitst in Oost-, Midden- en West-Brabant. Midden was de streek van de druiven en het witloof. MIdden-Brabant is het Nederlandstalig gebied of liever ‘de slimme rechthoek’ tussen langs de westkant Brussel-hoofdstad, langs de noordkant de grens met de provincie Antwerpen en de stad Mechelen, langs de oostkant de stad Leuven en langs de zuidkant de taalgrens of de grens met Waals-Brabant of Wallonië.
Er is ook een tijdschrift ‘Midden-Brabant’. Op de kaft staan de gemeenten weer: Hoeilaart, Overijse, Tervuren, Huldenberg, Oud-Heverlee, Kraainem, Wezembeek-Oppem, Bertem, Zaventem, Kortenberg, Herent, Machelen, deelgemeente Peutie, Steenokkerzeel, Kampenhout, Zemst, Boortmeerbeek, Haacht en Keerbergen.
Kortenberg heeft zich altijd geprofileerd als het centrum van Midden-Brabant.
