De pas ligt op 1090 m boven zeeniveau in het centrum van Wildhaus in de gemeente Wildhaus-Alt St. Johann. Hij verbindt Gams in het St. Galler Rijnvallei met Nieuw St. Johann en Wattwil in het Toggenburg. De pas loopt over de hoofdweg 16 tussen de Säntis en de Churfirsten door.
Postbuslijnen op deze route waarborgen de verbinding met het spoorwegnet via de stations in Buchs SG, evenals in Nesslau en Wattwil.
