Begin 19de eeuw woonde Ludwig van Beethoven in Wenen, maar in 1809 veinsde hij naar Kassel te komen op er kappelmeester te worden. Hij wilde wel in Wenen blijven, maar dan moest de adel hem een vast inkomen garanderen. Zijn bluf werkte. Op 26 februari kreeg hij het door hem begeerde contract met een jaargeld van 4000 florijnen.
