Bij de opening in 1913 werd dit station Danziger Straße genoemd. In 1950 werd de Danziger Straße omgedoopt tot Dimitroffstraße, vernoemd naar de Bulgaarse leiders van de communistische partij Georgi Dimitroff, en de naam van het station werd dienovereenkomstig gewijzigd. In 1991 werd het hernoemd naar Eberswalder Straße, vernoemd naar de westelijke voortzetting van de Dimitroffstraße, die zelf pas in 1995 om politieke redenen werd hernoemd: stationnamen stonden onder controle van de stads overheid, terwijl straatnamen alleen konden worden gewijzigd met de medewerking van lokale wijken.
