De parochiekerk St. Jakobi in de oude stad staat op de fundamenten van een kleinere voorgangerkerk. Ze was al op het eerste stadszegel van 1248 te zien. Enkele fundamenten daarvan zijn tot op de dag van vandaag behouden gebleven.
Na de grote stadsbrand van 1478 werd de kerk herbouwd. Het eerste bericht over deze kerk dateert uit 1495, toen de consecratie plaatsvond. Vermoedelijk waren op dat moment het oudste bouwelement, de sacristie, en het gewelfde koor gereed. Het koor heeft twee traveeën met kruisgewelven en eindigt met een polygonale apsis met een 5/8-afsluiting.
