Wie geen andere herenhoeve in het gebied van de huidige gemeente Weilerswist, bepaalt kasteel Bodenheim het gelijknamige dorpsbeeld. Het heeft zijn pittoreske en opvallende ligging in de Erftaue behouden en komt zeer oudmodisch over, wat in de eerste plaats te maken heeft met de onregelmatig gewinkelde opbouw en het ontbreken van tuinarchitecturale elementen. In dit opzicht komt Bodenheim overeen met de middeleeuws-feodale traditie, volgens welke een adellijke herenhoeve vrij in het landschap moest liggen.
