De Schering Aktiegesellschaft is een van de voorgangerbedrijven van Bayer Pharma. Schering was tot de overname door Bayer in 2006 een zelfstandig beursgenoteerd farmaceutisch bedrijf met meer dan 25.000 medewerkers in 160 dochterondernemingen wereldwijd en met een omzet van ongeveer 5,3 miljard euro. Het hoofdkantoor bevond zich in Berlijn-Wedding.
De grootste Duitse productielocaties bevonden zich in Bergkamen, Berlijn en Weimar.
