Het uitgebreide straatdorp ligt ten noorden van het stuwmeer Quitzdorf aan de zwarte Schöps, ongeveer zeven kilometer ten westen van de voormalige districtshoofdstad Niesky. Ten noordwesten van de plaats bevindt zich het biosfeerreservaat Oberlausitzer Heide- en Teichlandschaft, dat bijna tot aan Groß Särchen reikt.
Omgevende dorpen zijn Petershain in het noorden, het kerkelijk dorp See in het noordoosten en de stad Niesky in het oosten, Jänkendorf ten zuidoosten en Diehsa ten zuiden aan de andere oever van het stuwmeer, Kollm en Steinölsa in het zuidwesten en Horscha in het noordwesten.
