Van het einde van de 11e tot het begin van de 12e eeuw werd de kerk als driebeukige, vlakgedekte pijlerbasiliek opgericht. Midden in de 13e eeuw werd de halfronde apsis vervangen door een vijfsijdige gotische koorsluiting boven een crypte. Het koorkwadrant en de zijkoren werden gewelfd, het westportaal vergroot. In de tweede helft van de 15e eeuw werd het middenschip gewelfd en in 1486 werd de sacristie voltooid. Het koorkwadrant werd verbonden met de zijkoren en de zijbeuken werden tot aan de torenfront naar voren gebracht.
