Het kasteel bij Jungshoved is gelegen op een buitengewoon strategische locatie. De plaats wordt voor het eerst genoemd samen met de bijbehorende kerk in het Koninklijke Valdemars Register in 1231, wat een lijst is van alle bezittingen en eigendommen van de koning. Het kasteel heeft echter ongetwijfeld wortels die teruggaan in de tijd en moet vermoedelijk ongeveer 100 jaar eerder zijn opgericht, toen vooral de Wenden uit het Duitse Oostzeegebied plunderden en de zuidelijke kusten van Denemarken verwoestten.
