De Porte du Bas (Benedenpoort) leidt naar het centrum van Mutzig, dat aan de wijnroute van de Elzas ligt, op ongeveer 30 km van Straatsburg
De Porte du Bas (Untertor), opgericht in 1559, blijft een van de opmerkelijkste overblijfselen van de middeleeuwse vestingwerken van de stad. Een Saint-Maurice, het wapen van de stad, geschilderd in 1895, siert de oostkant. Tot 1775 werd het voorafgegaan door een geavanceerd werk (barbican) dat werd vervangen door een monumentale boog die in 1894 werd afgebroken.
Wat is er verborgen in de toren? ...kerkers!
Mutzig was een stad in de Middeleeuwen en daar werd recht gesproken. Er vonden processen plaats over hekserij en kindermoord, die te vinden zijn in de stadsarchieven.
