Een notitieboekje van de hand van Leonardo da Vinci bevindt zich in de collectie van het Victoria and Albert Museum in Londen. Op basis van enkele aantekeningen in dit notitieboekje concludeert professor Ian Hutchings van de universiteit van Cambridge dat Da Vinci de basiswetten van de wrijvingskunde meester was. In het notitieboekje beschrijft Da Vinci wetten die we vandaag toeschrijven aan het werk van de Franse wetenschapper Guillaume Amontons die tweehonderd jaar na Da Vinci leefde.
