Je kan kaas van Stilton eten maar je mag het geen Stilton kaas noemen... Zoals je weet gaf het dorp Stilton zijn naam aan de beroemde Stilton kaas. Maar wist je dat de kaas die in Stilton gemaakt wordt niet de naam "Stilton Cheese" mag dragen. De reden is dat de producenten van Stilton kaas de "beschermde geografische Status" verwierven voor hun product in 1996. Dit betekent dat buiten dat gebied, het niet toegestaan om kaas deze naam te geven. En aangezien de "beschermde geografische Status" het gebied van Derbyshire, Leicestershire en Nottinghamshire dekt en omdat dit niet het dorp Stilton zelf omvat, kun je de kaas uit Stilton geen Stilton kaas noemen.
