Yad Vashem is het officiële Israëlische monument ter nagedachtenis aan de Joodse slachtoffers van de Holocaust. Gelegen aan de voet van de Herzlberg op de Herdenkingsberg in Jeruzalem, is Yad Vashem een complex van 180.000 m² met het Holocaustmuseum en gedenkplaatsen. Niet-Joden die Joden tijdens de Holocaust hebben gered, met gevaar voor eigen leven, worden door Yad Vashem geëerd als "Rechtvaardigen onder de Volkeren". De naam is afgeleid van een Bijbelvers: "En aan hen zal Ik in mijn huis en binnen mijn muren een gedenkteken en een naam (Yad Vashem) geven die niet zal worden uitgewist." (Jesaja, hoofdstuk 56, vers 5).
