Corniglia wordt genoemd in de beroemde novelle Decamerone van Giovanni Boccaccio. Corniglia ligt niet direct aan zee. In plaats daarvan bevindt het zich op de top van een ongeveer 100 meter hoge landtong, aan drie zijden omgeven door wijngaarden en terrassen, terwijl de vierde zijde steil afloopt naar de zee. Om Corniglia te bereiken, moet men de Lardarina beklimmen, een lange bakstenen trap bestaande uit 33 trappen met 377 treden, of een geasfalteerde weg volgen die vanaf het station naar het dorp leidt. Soms rijdt er een busje heen en weer.
