De Vermenagna is een zijrivier van de rivier de Gesso, in het stroomgebied van de Po. De bron is een klein meer dat hoger ligt dan 2000 m, dichtbij de Rocca dell'Abisso, niet ver van de Colle di Tenda; na Limonetto stroomt het door de gemeenten Limone Piemonte en Vernante, waar het van de linkeroever zijn belangrijkste zijrivier ontvangt, de rio di Valle Grande, die het water van de vallei van Palanfrè verzamelt. De loop gaat verder naar Robilante en Roccavione; op de grens tussen de laatste gemeente en Borgo San Dalmazzo mondt de Vermenagna uit in de Gesso, op 610 meter hoogte. De loop van de Vermenagna scheidt de Maritieme Alpen van de Ligurische Alpen.
