W7-8: QUATTRO FONTANE

Dit kruispunt van kaarsrechte straten ligt op een strategische plaats. Aan de einder van drie ervan is een obelisk te zien, namelijk deze aan de Quirinale (W7-1), de obelisk bovenaan de Spaanse Trappen (W6-12) en deze aan de achterzijde van de Santa Maria Maggiore (W7-13). De vierde arm leidt loodrecht naar de Porta Pia.
Twee van de vier hoekfonteinen werden betaald door de familie Mattei die ook hier wat grond bezaten. Ze waren voordien ook mecenas geweest voor de Schildpaddenfontein (W2-4) die voor hun woning staat op de Piazza Mattei.
