Hoenlo is een van de oudste havezaten van Salland. Al in 1233 werd Albertus van Hoenlo genoemd.Schrijver Harry Mulisch heeft hier zijn boek de Ontdekking van de Hemel geschreven, dat later verfilmd is op kasteel Het Nijenhuis. Het huis is nu verdeeld in 6 appartementen . Het 190 ectare grote landgoed wordt beheerd oor een verzekeringsmaatschappij.Vrije wandeling over het landgoed is toegestaan met uitzondering van het park rond het huis.
