Het ligt ten noordoosten Sneek en ten noordwesten van Terhorne, tussen de dorpen Poppingawier en Sijbrandaburen. De dorpskern ligt tussen Bangavaart en de Kerkevaart die beide het met de Sneeker Oudvaart verbindt. De Bangavaart stroomt door naar de Kruisbrekken.Ten westen van de Kerkevaart ligt de buurt Westerein en ten zuiden van het ligt de buurtschap De Wieren die onder het dorp valt. In 2021 telde het dorp 340 inwoners.
