Sinds 1976 is 't Japanse Winkeltje gevestigd aan de Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal te Amsterdam en vanaf het begin gespecialiseerd in bijzondere Japanse producten. Amsterdam kent dus ook andere fashion van andere landen/culturen.
In maart 2010 is de winkel grondig verbouwd tot een lichte, moderne winkel en mooier dan ooit, met nog meer aandacht voor de subtiele schoonheid van Japans design.
Japans design staat bekend als strak, eenvoudig met veel gevoel voor detail en vaak in relatie met de seizoenen. Dit alles komt naar voren in het keramiek, handgemaakt papier, lakwerk en calligrafie, in de kimono, lampen, boeken en ukiyo-e. In de winkel vindt u traditionele ambachtskunst in hedendaagse vormen, vaak exclusief handgemaakt door (jonge) Japanse kunstenaars.
