C. Jochems en Jac Martens kwamen op het idee om in de buurt, als bescherming tegen oorlogsgevaar, een kapelletje te bouwen. Er werd een inzameling gehouden die enkele honderden guldens opbracht. In 1942 begon men met de bouw en op 15 september 1942 werd door pastoor Verbunt de kapel toegewijd aan Onze Lieve Vrouw van de Zeven Smarten.
Deze kapel staat aan de voormalige trambaan.
