Trondheim is een stad in de Noorse provincie Trøndelag. Met 198 219 inwoners is het de derde stad van Noorwegen. Trondheim is gelegen aan de Trondheimfjord. De veerdienst Hurtigruten meert aan in de haven van de stad.
De plaatsen Byneset, Langørjan, Leinstrand, Ringvol, Spongdal, Strinda en Trolla, veelal eerder zelfstandige gemeenten, maken deel uit van de gemeente. De gemeente werd in 2020 uitgebreid met de gemeente Klæbu.
