Aan de westkust van Gotland ligt één van de best bewaarde Hanzesteden: Visby. Het heeft vijftig wachttorens, poorten, ophaalbruggen en muren. Eenmaal per jaar is er een Middeleeuwse Week. De stad is dan gevuld met monniken, ambachtslui, ridders en handelaren. De stad heeft twaalf gotische kerken, waaronder de Santa Katarina. Visby werd gekozen door GEO als één van de top 10 kleine steden in Europa.
