Taste of Place Tour: Mieming Plateau

Visitors to the Mieming Plateau should not miss out on the opportunity to explore some of the best local cuisine while at the same time stretching their legs and breathing in the fresh mountain air. The "Genussroute Untermieming" is one of the Taste of Place Tours in Tirol and is clearly signposted from start to finish in striking magenta. This easy 11km hike is particularly recommended in winter, when the sun shines down on the snow-covered fields of the Mieming Plateau and the light reflects on the countless snow crystals. From homemade juices, jams, schnapps, dried bacon and cheese to sun-ripened fruit, plenty of culinary highlights await. All in all there are nine stops on this Taste of Place Tour leading through the villages of Obermieming, Untermieming and Wildermieming. Most stops are at working farms run by local producers. The trails connecting them are generally flat, cleared of snow and suitable for families with children.
The walk begins in front of the Raiffeisenbank in Obermieming and initially heads in an easterly direction along the road, over the Stöttlbach river and immediately afterwards along the third road on the left. After a few hundred metres you will find the first Taste of Place stop on your right: Steirer's Hofladen (Obermieming 127; open daily 8:00-21:00). From there head back along the way you came for a short while and then take the first road heading left. After passing the Alpenresort Schwarz and the Golfpark take the first road left (Rochusweg), cross the houses and continue straight on past the Pestkapelle chapel. Just after leaving the village you will find the second Taste of Place stop: the farm shop run by the Maas family (Holzgasse 3; open Mon-Sat in the morning).
