With 'Prins de Ligne' refers to Karel van Arenberg (1515 -1616). Karel, son of Jean de Ligne and Margaretha vander Marck, inherited the name 'Arenberg' from his mother, who stipulated in her marriage contract that her children could bear the extinct name Arenberg and the coat of arms of their ancestors.
Originally, this connection between the Naamsesteenweg and the Waversebaan was nothing more than a field road. It was paved and renamed Prins de Lignestraat in 1905 during the festivities of the 75th anniversary of Belgian independence.
