The Kleine Seminar, one of the oldest schools in Belgium, opened its doors at this location in 1806. During the war, the buildings served as a German hospital.
The seminar is repurposed
Not long after the planned start of the school year, the buildings were used to accommodate German soldiers. Initially, they were soldiers of the Allies, but soon the school buildings became the German hospital.
The war makes teaching impossible
It was not only the Kleine Seminar that was taken over by the German occupiers. All monasteries in Roeselare were confiscated and served as hospitals. The other schools in the city were also requisitioned.
