Le Petit Séminaire, one of the oldest colleges in Belgium, opened its doors in this building in 1806. During the war, the buildings served as a German field hospital.
Le Petit Séminaire takes on a different role
Shortly after the planned start date of the school year, the buildings were used to house soldiers. Initially, these were Allied soldiers, but soon the school buildings became a German field hospital.
Education in wartime made possible
Not only was Le Petit Séminaire used by the German occupier. All monasteries in Roeselare were requisitioned, as was the hospital. Likewise, the many other schools that the city had were also taken over.
