Hornbeam and hawthorn fence hedge

The former farmhouse located at Schutterijstraat 20 is closed off along the side of the Langstraat with a fence hedge of hawthorn and hornbeam. The southern part of this hedge, located along a young orchard, is still being sheared. There is a lot of ivy in the hedge. The hedge is visible for the first time on the topographical map of the Military Depot from 1873 as a separation between the yard and agricultural land and the road, which was then incised. On the military topographical map from 1932, the difference in height between road and agricultural land has been eliminated here. The hedge has probably been replaced (several times) since its original planting.
