The Surenburg, a moated castle in the Tecklenburg region, is located in Riesenbeck, a district of Hörstel.
There is no documentary information about its origins. It is assumed that it was founded as a manor house after the conquest of Bevergern by the Bishop of Münster in 1400. It was first mentioned in a document in 1474 as the residence of the Lords of Langen. In 1612 it passed by marriage to the Lords of Münster. In 1786 it was bought by Carl Heinrich Heereman von Zuydtwyck, a nobleman from Roermond in the Netherlands. His descendants, represented today by Philipp Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck, still live there today.
