The Koblenz-Schmidtenhöhe military training area is a military facility in Koblenz. The 776-hectare training area is located in the district of Horchheimer Höhe on a ridge of the Westerwald descending into the Rhine Valley between the city of Koblenz and Fachbach. Parts of the facility are now under nature protection and are managed by the Nature Conservation Union Germany. The semi-open pastureland provides a habitat for rare species. The area is owned by the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks and is under the command of the State Command Rheinland-Pfalz. In September 2017, 235 hectares of Schmidtenhöhe were permanently transferred to the NABU Foundation for National Natural Heritage.
