The Augustinian Monastery of Eschwege was a monastery of the Augustinian Hermits in Eschwege. Its origins date back to the 13th century.
According to a document from September 1278, Abbess Kunegund and the convent of the Cyriaci convent in Eschwege granted a plot of land within the city walls to the brothers of the Order of Saint Augustine at the request of the citizens and the council of Eschwege for the construction of a house of prayer and other necessary buildings. The plot of land in the southeastern corner of the old town was part of the later monastery district, which was bordered by the city walls along the road behind the city wall and the later Wallgasse before the new town was joined to the old town. Nearby, the Leimentor led out of the city. Over the next few years, the monastery property expanded to include additional adjacent buildings and plots. On May 1, 1366, Landgrave Heinrich of Spangenberg declared that he allowed the Augustinians to build "homely chambers" on their courtyard opposite the monastery and to connect them to the monastery by a bridge over the road. "Furthermore, no one shall be allowed to divert the stream flowing through the monastery, which they wish to continue using as before for the cleaning of the chambers."
