The Steinbeck has its source near Revenahe. From there it flows north and takes up the Apenser Hauptgraben from the right. From the left flows the Griemsbach, which receives its water in the Braken and Harslah nature reserve and flows past Griemshorst.
On the left bank of Steinbeck lies Weißenfelde and on the right Ruschwedel. The two railway lines Bremerhaven–Buxtehude and Harsefeld–Buchholz run over the stream. At Ruschwedel, the Steinbeck continues to the northwest and touches Rutenbeck. The stream flows through the Steinbeckforst and flows northeast of Harsefeld into the Aue.
