Su fuente se encuentra en Steinbeck cerca de Revenahe. Desde allí fluye hacia el norte y recibe por la derecha el canal principal de Apenser. Por la izquierda desemboca el Griemsbach, que recoge sus aguas en la reserva natural de Braken y Harslah, y fluye pasado Griemshorst.
En la orilla izquierda de Steinbeck se encuentra Weißenfelde y en la derecha Ruschwedel. Las dos líneas de tren Bremerhaven–Buxtehude y Harsefeld–Buchholz cruzan el arroyo. En Ruschwedel, Steinbeck continúa hacia el noroeste y tangencia Rutenbeck. El arroyo atraviesa el bosque Steinbeck y desemboca al noreste de Harsefeld en la Aue.
