Rijnwijck Estate

Source: De Wandelmaker

Description

Just north of the A12 motorway and bisected by the Utrecht – Arnhem railway line is the Rijnwijck estate. Due to its isolated location not so well known and little visited. The estate was built at the beginning of the 17th century and demolished in 1867. What remains of it are remnants of the moat that enclosed the island on which the house stood.
Ash coppice is characteristic of the area along the Kromme Rijn, as is the case on the Rijnwijck Estate. The strong ash wood is very suitable for making stems for tools.
