On and around the IJssel

Cycling in the IJsselzone neighbourhood provides unique experiences. The hamlet of IJsselzone is a rural area between Zwolle and the IJssel. The stream is about 700 hectares in size and forms an oasis of peace, amidst the hectic pace of the city. What is particularly striking is the variety in the Hamlet due to the rapid transition from the city to the landscape. Everywhere you can see remnants of the power of water and its control by man and of the capricious nature. In a thousand years, a wild, watery landscape, which in the former Middle Ages was called the 'Forest of Disgrace', has been turned into a beautiful cultural landscape.

De Buurtschap is working on its future with a new form of cooperation: joint management with many cooperation partners. This cooperation has already taken a visible form through the installation of benches, fences, information boards and stork nests. However, this is just the beginning. The vision of the cooperation is to align the common interests in such a way that the area remains quiet, regional and green. In practical terms: the partners keep the area beautiful and quiet with joint effort and accentuate the specificity of the area.
