Hermannsturm

The Hermann Tower is a 21 m high reinforced concrete structure erected as a watchtower on the Dörenberg in Georgsmarienhütte.
The observation deck at an altitude of 352 meters above sea level offers a view to the southeast over the Teutoburg Forest, south to Bad Iburg and on to Münster and north to the Wiehen Mountains.
The watchtower was built in 1975 by the then name of Möller of the town Georgsmarienhütte. The new tower replaced the 12-metre-high "iron Hermann" built on the same site in 1898. Hermann Tower is named after the Germanic military leader Arminius (Hermann), who led his troops to victory against the Roman general Publius Varus Quinctilius in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in the year 9 AD.
On the north-west neighboring Lammersbrink stands in front of the Hermannsturm identical Varus tower. Both towers are connected by a footpath, the mountain road connected.
