Seldensate

Seldensate is an approximately 10-hectare estate located southwest of the village of Middelrode in the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel, North Brabant. The municipality has been the owner since 1971. The estate used to have a farm, a gatehouse with a dovecote, a brewery, and a playhouse called Seldensate. Only the gatehouse with the driveway, the dovecote, and a part of the brewery still exist. The farm has disappeared, and what remains of the small castle is a ruin surrounded by a moat. The name Seldensate comes from the old term seldene zathe. This can be roughly translated as 'special estate' or 'special country house'. Since 2002, the estate has been a national monument. The park and ruin are freely accessible to walkers.
