AzureAfter the start at the Alkmaardermeer you will pass Bollendorp at Heiloo. Contrary to what the name suggests, this place does not derive its name from flower bulbs but from hills, similar to the Frisian name mounds.
In Binnen-Egmond you will find the Sint-Adelbert abbey. This is the oldest abbey in the Netherlands, founded in the tenth century. The monastery played an important role in the war between the Dutch and the West Frisians and used to be an important library. After a beautiful drive through the dunes you will arrive in the very old Bakkum, one of the oldest cores of the municipality of Castricum. You will also pass through Uitgeest. Worth a visit here are the Dutch Reformed church with 14th-century tower and the Roman Catholic church in neo-Gothic. There are also five mills around Uitgeest.
