June 6, 1944, D-Day. The long-awaited landing of the Allies on the coast of Normandy is a fact. In the Netherlands, the arrival of the liberators is awaited with bated breath. Because of the approach from the south, American soldiers were the first to set foot on Dutch soil in Eijsden-Margraten. There is still a lot to see and hear from this turbulent time. So much that you better take the bike!

Liberation of the Meuse Valley is one of the three WW cycling routes with the common theme Cycling to freedom. During this route you cycle past various war sights located westwards in the municipality of Eijsden-Margraten. With the perfectly signposted junction system, navigation is almost automatic. You can park and start at Station Eijsden (Stationsplein 9 in Eijsden).
