Welcome to the Garlic Toad Walk in Resterheide!

The Dommel Valley and the Valley of the Black Brook are among the most valuable stream valleys in Flanders. Hechtel-Eksel is the perfect place to discover both. These valleys are known for their extreme variation: from a soggy peat stream valley to the bone-dry, sandy drifting dunes on the heath.

Resterheide belongs to both valleys. It is a fairly large nature reserve (170 ha). It is protected at the European level as part of the Natura 2000 area 'Valley and spring area of the Black Brook, Bolissenbeek, and Dommel with heath and peat areas.' It is also home to the rare garlic toad.

We follow the same route as the Heron path. Take the whole family out and enjoy this beautiful piece of nature!
