Most visited at the Palazzo della Cancelleria is the Arco della Cancelleria.

The Arch of the Chancery is the gate that opened on the north side of the first wall of San Gimignano and dates from the 10th-11th century. At that time, the neighborhood behind the gate did not yet exist and from here the road went into the open countryside towards Pisa, forming part of the Via Francigena. Today, this section of the road is part of the San Matteo neighborhood, which was created around 1200 along the road axis that promoted trade and trade opportunities.
