If you want to take a look at Dwarsgracht, follow the footpath along the canal. Just like in Giethoorn, there is also a lot of water, ditches and founders that are used extensively by the boating farmers, who can only reach their land by water. In the middle of the village stands one of the thickest and oldest ash trees in our country. The tree was planted around the year 1800 and now has a trunk circumference of 415 centimeters. Its height is 25 meters. Kooiker Gerrit Jansz. Otter built a house behind the tree in 1882. Over the years, the roots of the ash tree have created a large hump around the house. The whole thing is popularly known as "the Essenbult".
