The Bossche Broek is a swamp area of 202 ha southeast of 's-Hertogenbosch. It is one of the few pieces of nature reserves close to the center of the city. In the 40s of the twentieth century, the municipality planned to build on the area, but due to the Second World War this did not happen. The plan was also to rebuild the municipal theatre, the current Theater aan de Parade, here. After all, the theatre was badly damaged during the war and restoration was just as difficult and costly as new construction. In 1954, at the insistence of the municipality of Vught, the city council decided to leave the area as it was and not to build on it. As a result, an important piece of greenery has been preserved for the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch. The area will be returned to nature in the future and then it will become a swamp again, as it was at the time of the Siege of 's-Hertogenbosch in 1629.
