The Bossche Broek

An impregnable fortress in the Middle Ages, that was the old marsh valley Bossche Broek. Now it is an untouched nature reserve of 116 hectares where you can run, walk, and cycle.
The residents of 's-Hertogenbosch are fortunate to have several beautiful nature areas in their backyard, each with its own distinct character. Unique is Het Bossche Broek, which borders the historic center of the city, within walking distance of the center. Het Bossche Broek is one of the lowest parts of the province. Precisely for this reason, 's-Hertogenbosch was built here; the high sand ridge with the wet marshlands surrounding it would make it difficult for the enemy to attack the city. Het Bossche Broek is known for its exuberant plant growth with rare species such as marsh water-dropwort and cotton grass. Cows graze up to the green-covered city walls.
