San Franciscus Church - Lamego

The current church is what remains of the monastery built in 1599 .

It was remodeled in the 17th century and later part of the church was used by a military hospital. After a fire in the Rua de Almacave, the entrance was significantly remodeled in 1916.

Inside the church, the highlight is a statue of Our Lady (16th century), carved in wood, and the painting on the main altar , a beautiful 17th century painting referring to the death of Saint Francis. In the sacristy, it is worth admiring the beautiful parterre with the paintings referring to the life of Saint Francis, as well as the painting on the ceiling. In the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, we can admire a beautiful iron gate from 1803, as well as tile panels referring to the Passion of Christ.
